SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani Tuesday reiterated support for the elite forces, Kurdistan Commando Forces after he visited its headquarters.
PUK President met Deputy Commander of the Commando Forces, a statement from Talabani’s office said.
President Talabani praised the role of Commander Akam Omar, the Commando Forces Commander in building such a solid and organized force that profoundly played in the war against the Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists and protecting the Kurdistan Region’s stability.
The Commando Forces Commander, Akam Omar, is currently hospitalized in Germany.
A while back, in October, Commander Convoy of the Commando forces struck an improvised explosive device (IED) in Sulaimani’s Garmian administration, in the midst of an anti-ISIS operation in Qum Palik village.
The bombing resulted in martyring officer of the Commando Forces Zuher Mohammed and injuring four others including the Commander, Akam Omar.
Commander Omar after staying for ten days in Faruq hospital of Sulaiamani was transferred to Germany to receive further treatment.
The Commando Forces blamed the ISIS terror group for the bombing following the incident and vowed to avenge the blood of their members.
“The Kurdistan Commando Forces is our pride,” PUK President said. Despite the forces’ role in maintaining Security as well as the tranquility of the Region, President Talabani highlighted the Commando forces’ key role in combating corruption.
“The Commando Forces tirelessly continue to confront corrupts and corruption, safeguarding the people’s rights and public property,” he said.
Moreover, President Talabani heartfully wished a speedy recovery for Commander Omar. “I wish for the earliest return of my brother Commander Omar to us so as to step toward greater goals.”
President Talabani also reiterated support for the Commando Forces and its heroic members, demanding them to continue in their military duties with a responsible spirit, and be prepared for any new developments.
