SULAIMANI (ESTA) — President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Jalal Talabani received Head of the Iraqi al-Fateh alliance Hadi al-Amiri on Sunday in Sulaimani.
Weeks after political turmoil in Iraq, prominent figure of the Shiite parties Hadi al-Amiri who also acts on behalf the Shiite coordination framework arrived in the Kurdistan Region, aimed at bringing the parties together and launching an initiative to relieve the country’s political unrest.
In a meeting attended by members of the PUK politburo, Shalaw Kosrat Rasul and Khalid Shwani, Talabani received Amiri in Sulaimani’s Dabashan both sides exchanged views on the latest political developments and launched an initiative to resolve issues, according to a statement released by Talabani’s media office.
“The meeting emphasized the unifying of national efforts for the sake of discovering a constitutional and legal path to escape from the undesired situation which Iraq trapped in,” the statement said.
“Both sides agreed on continuing discussions and constructive dialogue to overcome the issues,” it said.
In the meantime, President Talabani stressed that PUK is always welcoming any initiatives which bring the parties together, aiming to reach a national agreement and escape the country from the current situation, according to the statement.
“In the past we asked for national dialogue to pass the obstacles with the same policy that President Mam Jalal used,” and “ today the initiative matches PUK’s perspective in serving the public and stability of the country, PUK support it” Talabani explained to Amiri as mentioned in the statement.
