Teenager in Sulaimani dies in midst of arresting him by police

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Police open a probe into the death of a teenager that died Saturday in mysterious circumstances in Sulaimani.

17-year-old Sahand Ahmed died while he came under arrest by the police, spokesman of police Sarkawt Ahmed confirmed, adding that they launched a probe into the incident.

Brother of Ahmed explained the detail of the incident to Esta Media Network in a statement about why he went under arrest by police.

“Yesterday [Friday] my brother fought with several people in Sulaimani’s Sarchnar neighborhood,” his bother said.

After Ahmed engaged in physical fighting, he was immediately arrested by the police but he escaped and then was arrested again, according to his brother’s words.

He also revealed that their family is suspicious about the death of Ahmad who died in the midst of arresting him by the police.

“Police have told us our brother allegedly fell from a height when they chased him and then died,” he said. “We are suspicious of our brothers’ death, police shall tell us the cause of the death with evidence,” he added.

In the meantime, the spokesman of police said that they have initiated a probe into the incident, and will reveal the investigation’s result when it came to be concluded.
