KRG deputy premier demands Iraqi government limit Turkey’s violations

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Deputy of the Prime Minister Qubad Talabani released a statement on Friday regarding Turkey’s attacks in the Kurdistan Region, saying Iraq’s government must display a serious stance toward the violations of our territorial sovereignty.

“Assaulting and violating of the Kurdistan territorial sovereignty as well as Iraq are increasing dangerously,” Talabani said in the statement.

“We should not express our complaints only through condemnation and wait for another attack,” he said.

“Iraq’s government must have a serious stance, and limit the violations through negotiations” he added.

Talabani demanded the neighborhood countries respect the Kurdistan Region’s privacy and not jeopardize the lives of the Kurdish citizens, according to the statement.

Talabani’s words coincide with Turkey’s continued attacks on the Kurdistan Region, in particular, after The Turkish ministry of defense carried out its latest drone attack in Kalar, Sulaimani province on Friday, in which at least four members of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party were killed.

Turkey has expanded its military campaign in Iraq to destroy the positions of the Kurdistan Worker’s Party (PKK) which Turkey, the United States, and the European Union classify as a terrorist group.

In April, Turkey launched a new military campaign, targeting PKK positions, Dubbed Operation Claw-Lock, Ankara says the offensive is a measure to prevent the PKK from using Iraq as a base to carry out attacks in Turkey.
