SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdish security forces seized a ton of expired medicines on Monday in Qaladize district north of Sulaimani, authorities said.
“One ton of expired medicines has been seized by our forces in warehouses, clinics, and pharmacies in Qaladize,” the directorate of Asayish (security) said in a statement.
The medicines were destroyed by the authorities in the district, it added.
The security forces also confiscated 170 kilograms of other types of expired medicine, smuggled into the district from Iran, the directorate stated.
“Four suspects were arrested over importing expired medicine” it said.
Qaladiza is located in north of the Kurdistan Region’s city of Sulaimani, near the Iranian border. It has been utilized by smugglers as a bridge between Iraq and Iran to import and export illegal goods due to the harsh conditions of the area.
