SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Another wave of sandstorm forced the closure of international airports in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region on Monday.
In a statement, the airport said the flights were suspended due to poor visibility caused by the dust storm.
“Flights will resume once the sandstorm ends,” it added.
Earlier, air traffic was suspended at international airports in Baghdad, Erbil and Najaf, according to statements issued by each airport.
On Sunday, the Kurdistan Region’s general directorate of meteorology and seismology warned an intense dust storm will hit the Region on Monday.
Authorities in Sulaimani province called on people to stay at home due to the sandstorm.
