Former minister kills man in Duhok province over land dispute

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A former Iraqi minister killed a man in the Kurdistan Region, an activist said on Saturday, and Esta Media Network has learned that it was over a land dispute.

Activist Ayhan Saeed said Dindar Najman Doski, who was a Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) minister in the federal government, had killed Haji Kamaran Pirafati in the village of Pirafati in Duhok province on Friday.

Doski resigned from the KIU several years ago.

Pirafati is the father-in-law of Shivan Saeed, one of the activists detained in Duhok province in 2020 over allegedly undermining security of the Kurdistan Region.

Police have yet to comment on the issue.

The suspect entered the house of the victim in Pirafati village on Friday, the activist said in a statement.

“He shot the victim in his neck after nearly half an hour and he left the body,” Saeed stated.

Pirafati is a well-known figure in Doski tribe in the Badinan area, according to Saeed.

The activist added that the suspect’s family denied that the former minister had killed the victim, accusing his guards of killing the victim.

“But people close to the victim reiterate that there was no guard with the former minister and that he carried out the killing,” Saeed said.

Esta Media Network has learned that a land dispute between Pirafati and Doski was behind the incident.
