Woman, child injured in rocket attack on U.S. embassy in Baghdad

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A woman and a child were wounded in a rocket attack directed against the U.S. embassy in Baghdad on Thursday, the Iraqi military said.

Iraq’s security media cell said one rocket fell had fallen in a school, but it didn’t say whether this was the rocket that injured the woman and the child.

Footage circulated on social media showed that the C-RAM defense system at the embassy intercepted the rockets.

Meanwhile, Iraq officials told Reuters that two to three Katyusha rockets were fired toward the embassy and at least two of them being down by the embassy’s rocket defense system.

A serious of attacks this month, which the United States blames on Iran-backed militia groups, have targeted bases or installations hosting U.S. military and diplomatic personnel but have caused no casualties.
