SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Five civilians have been killed by Turkish airstrikes in the Kurdistan Region this year, a Kurdish official said on Monday.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Coordinator for International Advocacy Dindar Zebari said in a press conference that Turkey and Iran had bombed and shelled border areas 272 times in 2020.
“A number of villages have been evacuated due to the presence of the PKK [Kurdistan Workers’ Party],” Zebari added.
The official further said 10 civilians were also wounded in Turkish bombardments.
Iran and Turkey sporadically bombard the Kurdistan Region’s areas on the border with both countries due to suspected positions of the PKK and the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.
