SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Wednesday condemned an attack by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on the Peshmerga forces in Amedi district in northeast of Duhok.

KRG Council of Ministers held its usual meeting chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Wednesday.

“The Kurdistan Region is a political and legitimate entity of the people of Kurdistan, and the Peshmerga forces are the protector of Kurdistan’s soil and people,” the KRG council of ministers said in a statement.

“The KRG strongly condemns today’s attack carried out by the PKK on the Peshmerga forces, and it considers it as an aggression on the Kurdistan Region and its legitimate institutions,” the statement read.

The KRG Council of Ministers further said it would prevent attempts to disrupt the Region’s security.

Earlier on Wednesday, a member of the Peshmerga forces was killed and three others were wounded after an explosion hit their vehicle in Chamanke sub-district in Amedi.

Recently, tensions have been high between the Region’s authorities and the PKK, which has positions on the Kurdistan Region’s border area with Turkey, where Turkish army sporadically bombs suspected PKK positions.
