SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Four parliamentary blocs and independent lawmakers boycotted a meeting between the Kurdistan parliament’s presidency and head of factions on Wednesday, a faction said.

The Kurdistan parliament’s presidency, including speaker, deputy speaker and secretary, held a meeting with heads of the factions on Wednesday.

The parliamentary blocs of Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and minorities took part in the meeting, according to Esta Media Network reporter.

The parliament’s presidency and the factions are set to discuss the Kurdistan Region’s constitution and the independent high elections and referendum commission.

The factions of Change Movement (Gorran), Kurdistan Justice Group (KIG), Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU), New Generation and independent lawmakers boycotted the meeting.

The KJG bloc said in a statement on Tuesday that it had decided to boycott the meeting because the “parliament’s leadership is not at the level of the demands of the people of Kurdistan”.

“They’ve done something that the parliament can’t do its real duty,” the faction added.

“The issue of corruption, organized looting of public funds, mass immigration of people which is about to become a disaster, rise in poverty rate and famine are priorities to hold serious meeting on them, not that meeting.”
