SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region’s President Nechirvan Barzani met with leaders of several Kurdish parties in Erbil on Tuesday.
Barzani visited headquarters of the Kurdistan Workers’ and Toilers’ Party (PKRK), Kurdistan Communist Party and Kurdistan Toilers’ Party in Erbil, his office said in a statement.
Barzani and leaders of the parties discussed challenges facing the Kurdistan Region, the latest developments in Iraq, unity and drafting Kurdistan’s constitution, and relations between Baghdad and Erbil, according to the statement.
The parties reiterated that unity between the parties guarantees “the protection of rights, gains of Kurdistan’s people” and helps pass hardships, the statement read.
They also expressed readiness to assist and support “all efforts and steps of President Nechirvan Barzani and the presidency for unity and reconciliation”, the statement said.
They also agreed that the Kurdistan Region could face challenges and preserve political stability through unity, dialogue and understanding.
“The Kurdistan Region Presidency will continue its efforts for unity and to pass the issues and crises in cooperation and coordination with the institutions and parties,” Barzani was cited as saying.
“The Kurdistan Region will remain as the place for coexistence and the protection of freedoms,” he added.
The Region’s presidency said Barzani’s meetings was in the framework of his visits to the political parties in Kurdistan Region.
Barzani paid visits to other parties including the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) in Sulaimani in May.
“The presidency’s main effort is to create unity [among parties]. We will discuss it with Goran, PUK and other parties,” Barzani told reporters last month.
