SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Health denied reports on Wednesday that coronavirus vaccines were smuggled illegally to Iran
BBC Persian released footage showing a box containing Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine smuggled to Iran from the Kurdistan Region.
“[Reports of] smuggling vaccine from the Region to Iran is baseless,” Deputy Minister of Health Rahel Faraydoon told Esta Media Network on Wednesday.
“The number of vaccines we get comes from Baghdad, and they are returned to Baghdad in numbers and names,” he said. “Iraq will not accept missing of vaccines.”
“The ministry has data and numbers of the vaccines used and sent to the Kurdistan Region, and they are published [to public],” he added.
Iraq has received two batches of Pfizer coronavirus vaccine this month. The Kurdistan Region has only received one batch of the vaccine from Baghdad.
