SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani met with Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah on Tuesday.
The Region’s president arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday morning for talks with Kuwaiti officials.
Barzani offered condolence to Kuwait’s emir and people for the death of late Emir Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, who died on September 29.
Sheikh Sabah had ruled the wealthy oil producer and U.S. ally since 2006, and steered its foreign policy for more than 50 years.
Barzani also congratulated Sheikh Nawaf for being the new ruler of Kuwait, the Kurdistan Region Presidency said in a statement.
Barzani and Sheikh Nawaf discussed relations between the Kurdistan Region and Kuwait, stressing the need to develop all fields.
He also thanked Kuwait’s support and humanitarian assistance for the Kurdistan Region, including those for Syrian refugees and Iraqi displaced people.
