Bafel Jalal Talabani: Elections are a primary right for citizens and an important basis for democracy

SULAIAMANI (ESTA) Bafel Jalal Talabani, the president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Washington with Brett McGurk, the White House facilitator for the Middle East and North Africa.

Bafel Jalal Talabani referred to the situation in the Kurdistan region and the issue of the Kurdistan Parliament elections, saying that elections are a primary right for citizens, an important basis for democracy, and an important step towards renewal and change in the governance process.

President Bafel Jalal Talabani pointed out that “we stand by all means against attempts that seek to create obstacles to holding fair elections and endanger the entity of the region and the bright face of the region that we seek.”

During the meeting, the most recent political occasions and advancements within the Kurdistan locale, Iraq, and the Middle East were examined, and coordination and joint work between political strengths and parties towards maintaining soundness, providing services, and creating a vote-based system within the locale were emphasized.

Regarding the unification of the Peshmerga powers and the endeavors of the worldwide consolidation, particularly America, in equipping and quickening the method, President Bafel Jalal Talabani said that these endeavors are intriguing, and we see them with appreciation.

“We reaffirm the continued military and intelligence cooperation and coordination between the Peshmerga forces, the Iraqi forces, and the international coalition in order to confront terrorism and maintain stability in the region.” President Bafel Jalal Talabani stated.

President Bafel Jalal Talabani referred to the steps of the new agreement between Iraq and America, saying that all steps must be within the framework of preserving the highest national interests and that decisions must be for the sake of peace and reconstruction in the country.
