Qubal Talabani announced in a statement that “We are pleased that the importance of the environment is being discussed at the highest level of politics in Kurdistan and Iraq، but this is not enough، and we must work to make this issue a policy priority in Kurdistan and Iraq.”.
He also said، “It is normal to disagree in many areas، but concern for the environment and working together to address the dangerous consequences of climate change can be common ground for all of us because this issue is the issue of the present and the issue of future generations.”.
Talabani stresses that “in the presence of the Iraqi President، the President of the Kurdistan Region، the Prime Minister، and Iraqi and Kurdistan officials، we participated in the International Symposium on Drought and the Impact of Climate Change on the Political، Economic، and Demographic Situation in Iraq.”.
In the end، the Deputy Prime Minister of KRG mentioned، “At this stage، we need both the Kurdistan Regional Government and the federal government to develop a joint strategy to protect the environment، combat the negative and dangerous effects of climate change، allocate the necessary budget annually، and take advantage of all scientific capabilities.”.
