SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Parliament has adopted only five laws during 90 hours of sessions in 2020, an institute for education and development said on Tuesday.
Pay Institute for Education and Development released its report about works of the Kurdistan Parliament in 2020.
Director of monitoring section at the Pay Institute Baban Jaafar said the parliament had held 23 sessions during the year.
“The Kurdistan parliament has held sessions for 90 hours,” Jaafar told Esta Media Network. “The parliament has also finished readings for 10 bills.”
A member of Change Movement (Gorran) bloc Daban Mohammed said the parliament had been “weak” this year due to its presidency, including speaker, deputy speaker and secretary.
“This term of parliament has been the worst term because it stayed away from the problems facing people, and it has played no effective role,” Mohammed added.
A lawmaker from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Mala Nasr said it was a “bad year” for lawmakers, government and people due to spread of coronavirus and fall in oil prices.
“The parliament’s session was not satisfactory due to the coronavirus and that is why the parliament was not able to do its legal works,” Nasr told Esta Media Network.
