Asayish detains suspect charged with using narcotic drugs in north of Sulaimani

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The General Directorate of Raparin security forces (Asayish), on Thursday, detained a suspect charged with using narcotic drugs.

Amid the continuation of the security forces’ efforts to detain the outlaws, the forces were able to detain a suspect in Hajiwa sub-district, north of Sulaiamni province, charged with using narcotic substances, Asayish in a statement said.

An amount of Heroin substances were seized amid arresting the suspect by the security forces, it added.

Local authorities in the Kurdistan Region have repeatedly warned that drug use and trafficking are on the rise.

In 2021, 1,943 people were arrested on drug-related charges, including dealing, using, and promoting substance use, according to the Kurdistan Region’s Anti-narcotics Department.
