Mother, her two children dead after pouring rain in Kirkuk

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Last night’s heavy rainfall caused a flood in the oil-rich city of Kirkuk, where a mud house collapsed as a result, killing a mother and her two children, aged two and four.

The tragic incident occurred at Kirkuk’s Bajwan village following heavy rainfall which affected a wide part of the country in a span of the last night, causing widespread floods.

Meanwhile, in Sulaimani, pouring rain caused widespread floods and traffic problems. Education directorates in the cities of Sulaymaniyah, Halabja, and Garmian announced school closures for Thursday.

No serious incidents were reported in Sulaimani despite the heavy rain that continued constantly for hours. Local authorities said an unprecedented amount of rain has been poured in overnight which amounted to 104mm.
