SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Six young men in Sulaimani were arrested over narcotic drug and theft charges, police said on Sunday.
Police in a statement revealed it arrested six people aged between 22 to 32 years old charged with using narcotic drugs.
“An amount of narcotic drugs and two pistols were confiscated amid the arrest,” the statement said.
The suspects have also admitted that they have been involved in dozens of theft crimes in Sulaimani, according to the statement.
Police investigations are still underway.
Local authorities in the Kurdistan Region have repeatedly warned that drug use and trafficking are on the rise.
In 2021, 1,943 people were arrested on drug-related charges, including dealing, using, and promoting substance use, according to the Kurdistan Region’s Anti-narcotics Department.
