Asayish clashes infiltrated ISIS group in Sulaimani province

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Local security forces (Asayish) clashed with a group of Islamic State (ISIS) militants late Sunday night in southern Sulaimani province who were infiltrated into the area.

Asayish has acquired advanced information that a group of ISIS militants infiltrated Sulaimani province. The militants have arrived at the remote areas of Sulaimani’s chamchaml district, a statement from Asayish Directorate said.

The arrival of the group was on November, 4, they were settled in the Sangaw sub-district and were also plotted to carry out “several” terrorist attacks.

However, Security forces could foil the terrorist group plot before they initiate, according to the statement

“Our forces were able to siege the terrorist group in a village of Sangaw after we obtained concrete details,” the statement said.

It did not provide further specifications about where they intended to target.

Moreover, Asayish said that they were engaged in a clash with the ISIS group, exchanging heavy fire for at least 30 minutes.

The clash resulted in the killing of two ISIS terrorists while detaining another, wounded. Nevertheless, Asayish could restore the security of the area following the confrontation.

“The complete area was brought back under the control of the Kurdistan Region security agency,” it added.
