SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region Counter-Terrorism Group (CTG) released a statement on Wednesday, denying the “fabricated scenario” of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) that the CTG was involved in the killing of a Kurdish intelligence officer.
On Oct. 7 this year a Kurdish intelligence officer died in a car blast in Erbil whose name was Hawkar Jaf.
The intelligence service of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) in the Kurdistan Region Security Council released confession footage of several CTG members allegedly involved in the blast and “assassinated” the officer of the KRSC.
KDP intelligence service, the Protection and Information/Protection agency in the KRSC said “the attack has been conducted by a team of CTG – Sulaimani.”
The Kurdish Counter-Terrorism Group located in Sulaimani responded to the allegations in a statement on Wednesday, rejecting involvement in the killing of the Kurdish officer.
“The CTG strongly deny the misleading of the KDP inelegance service [Protection and Information/Protection agency] that alleged several CTG officers to be involved in the assassination of colonel Hawkar Jaf,” CTG in the statement said.
“The CTG agency is a national, official, governmental, regulated and special trained military force that played a prominent role in fighting against terror across Iraq and more specifically in the Kurdistan Region.”
“The CTG also played a notable role in protecting the Kurdistan Region stability and maintaining security, which is an honor not only in the Region but also trusted and respected by the U.S.-led coalition forces, they were the main supporter in the war against terror,” it said.
“Naming the CTG and being accused by a misleading intelligence service that has always fled from the frontlines of the protection battles of the Kurdistan Region, which belongs to a lost conspirer party of this Region that has lost the security path and instead of working to protect the security of our Region, they are busy for designing scenarios that their loser politicians are ordering and that this misleading intelligence agency is implementing them,” it added.
CTG further said that if the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) withdrew its candidate for the Position of Iraqi President [Sulaimani CTG is affiliated with the PUK], “Would this fabricated scenario [the confession footage] be released by the KDP intelligence service?” CTG said.
“The Kurdistan Region People are much aware to believe in such a scenario, a night before the Iraqi Presidential election takes place in the parliament,” it said, referring to the parliament session that is set to take place today to vote for the new President for the country and PUK announced that their “official” nominee is incumbent Barham Salih.
“All of the events of Oct. 7 that occurred in Erbil has been carried out by a specific team of the KDP inelegance service [Protection and Information/Protection agency],” it continued.
It is worth mentioning that the CTG called for the formation of a “neutral” and “expert” team from the U.S.-led coalition forces, the European Union, and the Iraqi forces under the supervision of the Kurdistan Region parliament to decide on the “fabricated scenario” and revealing the truth for the public.
