Sulaimani Security forces thwart largest drug trafficking plan

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Sulaimani Directorate of Security Forces on Monday announced that it thwarted the largest drug trafficking plan with the seizure of a tremendous amount of narcotic substances, adding two suspects were detained.   

In two separate special activities, the security forces in Sulaimani have seized as many as 276 kilograms of methamphetamine or crystal meth.

Two suspects were detained in the anti-drug operation and both of them were Kirkuk-based traffickers, attempting to export that big amount of Narcotic substances from the Kurdistan Region, according to Asayish.

Providing information about the operation organized by Sulaiamni Asayish, it stated that they have intensified the anti-drug operations throughout the Region and will continue to tackle all drug offenses. Adding, the seized methamphetamine was smuggled into the Region.

1,943 people were arrested on drug-related charges, including dealing, using, and promoting substance use, In 2021 according to the Kurdistan Region’s Anti-Drug Directorate.
