SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Journalists’ Syndicate said on Thursday all journalists detained during protests in Sulaimani were released.
Students of universities and institutes protested in Sulaimani for four days against the suspension of their monthly stipends, halted by the government since 2015.
The syndicate’s Sulaimani branch said a number of journalists were detained during the protests which turned violent after the direction of the demonstrations changed to burning political offices and offices.
“All of them were released today by efforts and cooperation of Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani,” it added.
On Thursday, Esta Media Network reporter Ayub Ali and his cameraman Yousif Faris were attacked by the security forces several times as they were covering student protests in Erbil.
The security forces have confiscated their vehicle.
