SULAIMANI (ESTA) — In one hospital in Raparin administration, many patients lie on the floor due to a jump in cases of COVID-19 in the area, with the Kurdish government warning that the virus still poses a threat to people’s lives.
Esta Media Network reporter in Raniya said many patients in overwhelmed Zhyan hospital in the Kurdistan Region’s Raparin administration were lying on the floor on Sunday due to a surge in coronavirus cases.
The ministry of health said on Sunday that it had recorded 272 new cases in the administration in the past 24 hours.
Following the news, the General Directorate of Health in Sulaimani decided to send ambulances to Raparin to transfer coronavirus patients to the hospitals in Sulaimani city.
“General Director of Health in Sulaimani Sabah Nasradin tasked ambulances in Sulaimani to transfer the patients in Raparin to Sulaimani city,” Sulaimani’s health directorate said in a statement.
Health minister Saman Barzinji also arrived in Zhyan hospital on Monday to follow up the situation and to provide necessary medical equipment for the hospital, according to the ministry of health.
Separately, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) called on citizens to follow medical guidelines and to receive COVID-19 vaccines as the virus still “poses a threat” to people’s lives.
As of Sunday, the Kurdistan Region has recorded 350,195 coronavirus cases and 6,136 deaths, according to figures released by the health ministry.
