SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Parliament on Tuesday voted to approve responses from the senior Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials regarding reform and economic crisis in the Region.

The Region’s parliament held a session on Tuesday to hear responses from KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Deputy Premier Qubad Talabani, and Minister of Finance and Economy Awat Sheikh Janab about reform, economic crisis, salaries and health sector as well as coronavirus pandemic.

As many as 81 lawmakers voted to approve responses from the senior officials, which were read by Parliament’s Deputy Speaker Hemin Hawrami.

The KRG works to increase revenue and to implement reform in the Region, premier Barzani said in his responses to lawmakers as the report was read by Hawrami.

“We have done our best to provide salaries to employees and we were able to distribute [salaries] of 12 months and only two months have not been paid,” Barzani said in his report.

“The Council of Ministers unwillingly decided to distribute 79 percent of salaries, and we must reluctantly adapt to this harsh situation,” he continued.

The deputy speaker also read responses from the deputy premier, who expressed support for the prime minister’s answers.
