PUK President tasks 70 forces Cos to take any necessary action to enhance reforms within Peshmerga

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), Bafel Talabani, on Sunday tasked the 70 forces chief staff to take any necessary action to enhance Peshmerga’s reforms, according to a statement.  

The President met with the 70 forces Cos staff major general Omar Salih in Sulaimani’s Dabashan area, the PUK President’s office read in a statement.

During the meeting, the Peshmerga major general handed President Talabani a report regarding the reorganizations of the forces, the statement said.

The report also includes the “intense” training of the Peshmerga forces as well as reviewing the administrative structure of the forces’ brigades.

In the meantime, the PUK President welcomed the efforts for reorganization and reforms within the Peshmerga forces to build “solid” forces.

Moreover, the PUK President tasked the 70 forces Cos staff to take any necessary action that serves the reform process and improves Peshmerga’s livelihood.

The PUK and the Peshmerga official also discussed the coordination between the Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi, particularly in the disputed areas that suffer from a security vacuum, the statement added.

Talabani had earlier received Mahmoud Sangawi, head of the Garmaser frontline of the Peshmerga forces on the same day.

The president and the Kurdish Commander discussed the reorganization of the Peshmerga forces and combating terror, stressing the maintenance of the operations against the remnants of the Islamic State (ISIS) militants.
