Deputy PM condemns assassination of Shukri Sarhad in Sulaimani

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani on Friday condemned the assassination of Shukri Sarhad, a Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) cadre, in Sulaimani, ordering security forces to find perpetrators.

An unknown gunman shot and injured Yasin Bulut, known as Shukri Sarhad, in Chwarchar neighborhood in Sulaimani early on Friday.

Sarhad was later succumbed to his injury.

“I strongly condemn the assassination of Shukri Sarhad who was assassinated in Sulaimani today,” Talabani said in a statement.

Talabani also called on the security forces to work “day and night” to find perpetrators and bring them to justice.

“We declare that Sulaimani is the city of peace and stability for all, and everybody can live its life under the security and tranquility of this city without any difference,” he said.

Sarhad, member of the PKK Committee of Martyrs’ Family, visited Sulaimani to receive medical treatment.

PKK-affiliated media accused Turkey’s National Intelligence Organization (MIT) of the killing.
