SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) on Sunday stress on coordination to overcome and resolve issues, according to a statement.
PUK Co-president Bafel Talabani accompanied by a delegation including Azhi Amin, head of protection and information—information agency, met with KIU General Secretary Salahadin Bahadin, Talabani’s office said.
They discussed Iraqi parliamentary elections scheduled for October 10 and the latest political, security and economic developments during the meeting, the statement read.
Both sides stressed on “coordination and mutual views to overcome issues and to resolve them,” Talabani’s office stated.
Regarding consensus and national unity, the two parties agreed on the “mechanism of understanding and constructive dialogue on the basis of high interests and protecting Kurds’ rights in the framework of law and the Iraqi constitution”, according to the statement.
They also discussed Iraq’s early elections as well as coordination and understanding between the Kurdish parties to secure “the most votes”, particularly in the disputed territories, the statement said.
