Bafel Talabani says there is ‘one PUK now’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Co-president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Bafel Talabani said on Monday there is only “one PUK” now and that changes will continue.

Talabani met with the Green List in the Supreme Committee of the Kurdistan Region’s Political Prisoners’ Association in Sulaimani.

The PUK co-leader said the party had renewed itself a “resonant force” and that they reorganized the party on the basis of mutual companionship, his office said in a statement.

“We will continue to make changes on the basis of development and to revive the PUK away from personal interests,” Talabani added.

“Now, there is one PUK, which is the PUK of martyrs, Peshmerga, strugglers, political prisoners, people with special needs and families of martyrs,” he noted.

Talabani also valued the importance role of political prisoners in the history of Kurdish struggle who participated and “sacrificed in the revolution and became the dynamo of succeeding the struggle with their endurance”.
