Guhbal community in Sinjar quarantined due to COVID-19 spread: official

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Authorities in Sinjar have quarantined Guhbal community due to spread of the novel coronavirus, a local official said on Wednesday.

Director of Snune sub-district Khudeda Chuki told Esta Media Network that the community had been placed on lockdown for 10 days after reports of several cases.

Guhbal community is located in north of Mount Sinjar.

“The medical teams will follow up the infected persons and the situation is under their control,” the local official said.

Forty people have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in Sinjar, of which eight died, according to the district’s figures.

Earlier on Wednesday, Iraqi Ministry of Health said it had recorded 3,667 new coronavirus cases and 52 deaths over the past 24 hours.

Iraq’s total number of infections reached 438,265 cases on Wednesday, of which 10,418 died and 369,010 recovered, according to the health ministry.
