SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A 70-year-old man was wounded in shelling by the Turkish military in the Kurdistan Region’s sub-district of Kani Mase, a local official said on Tuesday.

Director of Kani Mase Sarbast Sabri told Esta Media Network that Turkish military artillery shelled areas near the village of Hirure in the sub-district at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

“One of the shells fell in the center of the village and injured a villager who is a farmer,” Sabri said.

“The man will be transferred to Zakho hospital after he receives basic treatment in the hospital in Beguva community,” he added.

Turkish warplanes and artillery intermittently bombard areas on the border between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey as part of its military campaign against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

At least six civilians have been wounded since the Turkish army began a military operation against the PKK in Duhok province in April.
