SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDP-I) on Saturday announced the assassination of one of its members in Erbil, accusing Iran of carrying out the act.
In a statement, the KDP-I said Musa Babakhani was abducted by “two terrorists belonging to the Islamic Republic of Iran” in Erbil on Thursday.
“His body which had marks of torture was found in a room in Guli Slemani hotel in Erbil city,” the party added.
The Kurdistan Region’s directorate of Asayish confirmed in a statement that the KDP-I member was found dead in the hotel in Erbil.
“Today, we were informed by the administrative staff of Guli Slemani hotel in Erbil city about a murder incident inside the hotel,” the directorate said.
“The person who was killed was a Kurdish citizen of Rojhalat, naming Musa Babakhani,” it added, referring to the Kurdish areas in Iran.
The KDP-I is an Iranian Kurdish party that split from the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) in 2006.
In a statement, the PDKI expressed concern and condemned the killing of the KDP-I member, hoping the “dark hand of terrorism of the Islamic Republic of Iran will be revealed in this big crime as soon as possible”.
