SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Justice Group (KJG) said on Tuesday it was preparing a proposal that is similar to the social welfare system for the Kurdistan Region.

Members of the KJG bloc in the Kurdistan parliament held a meeting on Tuesday to discuss the preparations of the proposal in an effort to help people who are unemployed.

A social welfare system offers assistance to individuals and families in need, including health care assistance, food stamps, and unemployment compensation.

“We are working to prepare a proposal similar to the social system in Europe, that obliges the government to pay a monthly financial aid to those who are poor and unemployed until they find a job at a private or public sector,” head of the KJG bloc Abdulstar Majid said in a statement.

“It is the time when we have to all work to tackle the issue of poverty and to drop the curve of unemployment and poverty,” he added, noting that the step was the “best way” to resolve the issue.

“There is no justification to refuse the proposal because the financial situation in the Region is at its best condition.”
