SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani said on Saturday the party would rebuild its relations with “our friends” during a meeting with Kurdistan Justice Group (KJG) leader Ali Bapir in Sulaimani.

The KJG leader accompanied by a delegation visited the PUK politburo in Sulaimani to hold talks with the party’s officials.

In the meeting attended by PUK politburo members, Talabani and Bapir discussed the latest political, economic and security developments in the Region and Iraq, the PUK co-leader’s press office said in a statement.

Both sides emphasized the importance of developing relations between the two parties so as to further coordinate and cooperate in the interest of public, the statement read.

They agreed that “this stage requires the Kurdish home to be reorganized, and after the elections the ground shall be paved for joint works so that all Kurdish sides will deliver one Kurdistani message to Iraq in  the framework of a national front, and to defend the constitutional rights,” the statement said.

Iraq is scheduled to hold early parliamentary elections on October 10, which was one of the main demands of anti-government protesters who organized months of mass demonstrations beginning in October 2020.

The vote is held every four years, but anti-government protesters demanded early elections.Top of Form

Regarding the current changes within the PUK, Talabani said the party would rebuild its relations with “our friends” and that it would continue “the struggle with all sides in the spirit of tolerance for a stronger Kurdistan and to provide a decent life for the people of Kurdistan,” according to the statement.
