Qubad Talabani is chosen as head of Kurdistan Alliance for Iraq’s parliamentary elections

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and Change Movement (Gorran) on Thursday selected Qubad Talabani as the head of Kurdistan Coalition for Iraq’s upcoming elections, both parties said.

Senior PUK officials including Co-president Bafel Talabani held a meeting with a Gorran delegation led by general coordinator Omer Said Ali in Sulaimani city.

In a joint statement, the two parties agreed to select Qubad Talabani as the new head of the Kurdistan coalition for the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 10.

In June, the two parties signed their agreement in a ceremony to form the Kurdistan Coalition for the elections.

Both parties stressed support for Talabani and the success of his alliance, the joint statement read.

They also decided to “reactivate election committees, complete preparations and intensify coordination between both sides,” the statement said.

The PUK and Gorran officials also discussed the latest political and economic developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, according to the statement.
