Co-leader Bafel Talabani says PUK supports process of reform in Kurdistan Region

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) Co-president Bafel Talabani said on Thursday the party supports the process of reform in the Kurdistan Region.

The PUK co-leader met with French Consul General to Erbil Olivier Decottignies in Sulaimani to discuss the political situation in the Region and Baghdad and developments in Iraq, the region and the world.

The two sides also discussed the security situation and the movement of Islamic State (ISIS) remnants during the meeting, Talabani’s office said in a statement.

Talabani reiterated the “PUK’s desire to adhere to a joint, national and Kurdistani policy that reflects the political parties’ views and people”, his office added.

“The PUK’s new policy is toward better governance and to further serve people,” he said, adding that the PUK assists and supports succeeding reform process, which provides a better living for the people, the statement read.

Talabani and Decottignies also supported more coordination and assistance between the Kurdistan Region and the U.S.-led Coalition forces in order to preserve security and stability in the region, according to the statement.
