SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi forces destroyed four Islamic State (ISIS) hideouts in Kirkuk province on Sunday, Iraq’s military said in a statement.
Iraqi security media cell said based on intelligence the federal police had found four ISIS hideouts in Riyadh district, southwest of Kirkuk.
Explosive devices, military equipment, logistical materials and a drone were hidden in the dens, the military added.
The federal police’s engineering team destroyed the materials and explosives, including five homemade explosive devices and four rockets, the statement read.
The federal government announced victory over ISIS by the end of 2017 after Iraqi and Kurdish forces backed by U.S.-led Coalition regained control of areas once captured by the militant group.
Despite its defeat, ISIS still poses a threat to the security and stability of the country as there are still sleeper cells in Iraq.
