Bafel Talabani says he decided to make ‘changes’ in consultation with ‘loyal leaders’

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) President Bafel Talabani said on Thursday he had decided to make “changes in root” in security institutions after consultation with the party’s “loyal leaders”.

Talabani released a message after he paid a visit to the tomb of late president Mam Jalal Talabani on Thursday.

In a message, titled ‘dear father, guider and historical leader”, Talabani said he had gone there to “tell you the truths closely and ensure you of my patience and tolerance in the face of protecting the PUK, the trust of the martyrs’ blood, struggle and exhausting of old Peshmerga, strugglers of the road of struggle, political prisoners, frontline’s disabled [Peshmerga], and the sacrifice of people”.

“Finally, after continued efforts, struggle for our PUK, protecting the right path, and consultation with PUK’s struggling and loyal leaders, I decided to make changes in root in the supervisors of all the security and political institutions, that had served in the interests of some people, were used for political purification and moved against the high interests of our nation and PUK,” Talabani added.

“The employees of these institutions were good and sincere people, but they were used to do these disgusting jobs. Works of laborers and capitalists were intervened. The governmental institutions were prevented from implementing their works and projects with plots and programs. Smuggling, bribery, threats and espionage were made a program.”

Talabani further said they had made the “right decision against lawbreakers” after hearing complaints of people, authors, journalists, intellectuals, teachers, diplomatic centers and families’ of martyrs.

“Today, we promise on your tomb that the PUK is a trust and we will protect it,” Talabani said, stressing that the PUK’s future will be brighter.

“No one will dare to send spy, not only into Mam Jalal’s house, but into people and government’s institutions, and such disgusting acts won’t be allowed to be done,” he added.

He further said the security and intelligence institutions should work to protect people’s livings and to create a “suitable environment” for people’s lives and works.

Earlier on Thursday, PUK media cited a senior PUK source as saying that the party had arrested a “spy” in the house of late president Mam Jalal Talabani in Sulaimani’s Dabashan area.

The source said the “spy” had confessed he had worked for “former co-leader” of the PUK, according to the party’s media.
