SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region on Monday recorded the highest single-day rise in coronavirus cases, according to the health ministry.

In a statement, the ministry said it had registered a record number of 1,071 new infections in the past 24 hours, the highest daily rise since April 28.

The ministry recorded 311 cases in Erbil, 286 in Sulaimani, 415 in Duhok, 54 in Garmian and five more in Raparin, the statement read.

It also recorded six deaths in Erbil and Sulaimani, the statement said. As many as 625 patients had also recovered from the virus.

The Region’s total number of infections reached 189,401, of which 4,510 died and 176,562 recovered, the health ministry’s data showed.

On Thursday, Minister of Health Saman Barzinji warned that the Kurdistan Region had moved from coronavirus yellow level to orange alert.

The minister warned that the coronavirus had not ended yet and that the Region “is not in a situation where we can remove masks”.
