Turkish warplanes bomb vehicle north of Sulaimani, says local official

Smoke rises after Turkish warplanes bomb as a vehicle carrying four people in Kanilan village in Sulaimani province, June 13, 2021.

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Turkish warplanes bombed a vehicle in Pshdar district north of Sulaimani, a local official said on Sunday.

Director of Hero sub-district Muhsin Hussein told Esta Media Network that a vehicle carrying four people was bombed by warplanes in the village of Kanilan in the area.

“According to initial information, the four people have died,” Hussein said.

It’s still unclear whether the victims are civilians or members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the PKK deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.

Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
