PUK bloc Chairman says ‘injured’ after parliament session descended into chaos

SULAIMANI (ESTA) —  The Chairman of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc on Monday said his head has been broken as a result of the violent fighting that erupted between the MPs inside a parliament session.

The Kurdistan Parliament convened earlier today with a controversial activation of the electoral commission on the agenda of the session.

Monday’s parliament session descended into chaos. Fighting between MPs from the PUK bloc and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) erupted.

The PUK and KDP have disagreements with each other over the reactivation of the electoral commission.

“I’m not supporting violence and I have been attacked amid the tensions inside the parliament and my head has been broken as a result,” said the PUK bloc chairman, Zyad Jabar.

“From the very beginning, we have tried to address the disagreements through dialogue,” He added.

Parliamentary Speaker Rewaz Fayaq postponed the session for an indefinite time following the tensions inside the chamber.

Subsequently, the PUK bloc released a statement and stated that “governance endures by cooperation and understanding not by deception or fleeing from reality.”
