Abu Dhabi Crown Prince reiterates UAE support for Iraq, Kurdistan Region

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday reiterated UAE’s support for Iraq and the Kurdistan Region, according to the Region’s presidency.

On Saturday, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani who arrived in Abu Dhabi on Friday met with Abu Dhabi crown prince Sheikh Mohamed, who is also deputy supreme commander of the UAE armed forces.

Barzani and Sheikh Mohamed discussed Iraq and the Region’s relations with the UAE, the latest political developments in Iraq, the upcoming Iraqi elections, the threat posed by terrorism, and the dangers of Islamic State (ISIS) resurgence during the meeting, the presidency said in a statement.

They also discussed the importance of partnership and coordination among all sides to preserve peace and stability in the region, the statement read.

The Abu Dhabi crown prince expressed UAE’s readiness to develop bilateral relations with the Kurdistan Region, reiterating his country’s support for the Region and Iraq, the statement said.

Barzani, for his part, reaffirmed that the Kurdistan Region “is willing to assist all UAE investment and business projects in Kurdistan,” the presidency stated.

The two sides agreed that cooperation and partnership among the regional countries “is important to safeguard peace and stability in the region and to confront terrorism”, it said.
