Turkish military tells village residents in Kurdistan Region to stay inside – villager

File – Turkish soldiers are seen during an operation in Syria

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Turkish military has told villagers in a village in the Kurdistan Region to stay in their homes on Thursday night, a villager said.

“The Turkish military came to our village and told the mukhtar: ‘Don’t make movements tonight’,” villager Salman Hiruri told Esta Media Network, referring to the head of the village.

Hirure added that the head of the village had informed the villagers about the Turkish military’s request and had asked them to stay in tonight.

“With no reason, they told the villagers that we cannot go out tonight,” he said.

He further said Turkish warplanes and artillery had continuously bombarded areas around the village overnight on Wednesday.

Turkey has taken its decades-old conflict with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) deep into the Kurdistan Region, establishing military bases and deploying armed military drones against the fighters in their mountain strongholds.

Most of the operations have focused on territory up to 30 km (20 miles) from the border.
