Peshmerga seizes rocket launchpad, used to target Khor Mor gas field

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A rocket Launchpad that was used to target the Khor Mor gas field has been seized by the Peshmerga forces on Wednesday.

In a statement, the chief of staff in the 70s commands of the Peshmerga forces said, “Following the repetition of the attacks on Khor Mor gas field, the forces were immediately launched investigations particularly, the areas with the security vacuum”.

“Based on intelligence information, a unit of 16th brigade was able to discover the location in which the rockets were launched,” it said.

The rocket Launchpad was structured on a truck and prepared to target the field again, however, “The plan was defused and the truck was seized”, according to the statement.

Over the past two months, at least three rocket attacks carried out on Khor Mor, the Kurdistan Region’s biggest gas production field, which is located in the Qaderkaram sub-district of Sulaiamni’s Chamchamal.

Dana Gas started production from Khor Mor in 2008. It is one of the largest gas projects in the Kurdistan Region and produces around 452 million cubic feet per day of gas.

Earlier on Monday, the field came under the fourth rocket attack.
