SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Iraqi President Barham Salih met with Co-president of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Baghdad on Sunday, stressing the importance of enhancing dialogue to solve issues between the federal government and Erbil.
The PUK co-president visited Baghdad on Saturday to hold talks with senior officials and political leaders in the Iraqi capital.
Salih and Talabani discussed the latest developments in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region as well as people’s livings, the Iraqi president’s office said in a statement.
Both sides stressed on talks and dialogue to resolve the pending issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad in accordance with constitution and law in order to achieve social justice and preserve the rights of all employees and citizens.
They also emphasized the importance of cooperation and coordination between the federal government’s institutions and the regional government to reach a common roadmap which is in the interests of the country, the statement read.
The Iraqi president and the PUK co-leader also discussed strengthening “serious dialogue” between the political parties in Iraq and the Region in order to resolve the political issues, according to the statement.
The PUK co-leader also met with Al-Hikma Movement leader Ammar al-Hamik and Head of State of law Coalition Nouri al-Maliki during his visit.
He is scheduled to hold talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and head of al-Fateh Alliance Hadi al-Amiri.
