SULAIMANI (ESTA) — A warplane bombed Asos Mountain in north of Sulaimani on Saturday, a local official told Esta Media Network.

Mayor of Mawat district Kamaran Hassan said a fighter jet believed to belong to Turkey bombed Kani Saner and Shekhan in the foothill of Asos mountain in the district.

“The airstrike did not cause casualties or damages,” he added.

Turkish warplanes have carried out airstrikes against suspected positions of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Asos mountain in the past.

Two people were killed and six others wounded in a Turkish strike on Kuna Masi resort in north of Sulaimani in June 2020.

Turkey regularly carries out air and ground attacks against the PKK in the Kurdistan Region. It says neither the Iraqi government nor the Kurdish government has taken measures to combat the group.
