PKK fires rockets at Turkish military base in Duhok province: reporter

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — Fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) launched rockets towards a Turkish military base in Duhok province on Tuesday, Esta’s reporter said.

The reporter said the PKK fighters had fired two rockets at a Turkish military base where members of the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) are stationed in Sirye community in Shiladze sub-district, 100 km northeast of Duhok.

The base is only one kilometer from the community, he added.

“Casualties and damages are still unclear,” the reporter said.

Turkey has launched a new ground and air defensive against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party in Duhok province, starting from Friday.

The Turkish army has set up three new military points in Amedi district, according to Esta’s reporter. Turkish media reported that commando forces landed in the Metina region from helicopters.

Besides troop deployment, Turkish warplanes continue to bomb areas where suspected PKK positions are thought to be presence.

Turkish defense ministry said two soldiers were killed and another wounded during clashes with the PKK in the Region.

Earlier on Tuesday, three employees of the directorate of electricity in Kani Masi sub-district in Amedi, northeast of Duhok, after they worked to repair power lines damaged by Turkish airstrikes in the village of Gamerke in the area.

Turkey has conducted numerous ground and aerial cross-border offensives into neighboring northern Iraq to attack the PKK fighters, who maintains bases in the region.
