Kurdistan Region’s COVID-19 death toll exceeds 2,000: health ministry

SULAIMANI (ESTA) — The Kurdistan Region’s coronavirus death toll surged past 2,000 on Monday, according to figures released by the health ministry.

The Region’s health ministry said in a statement that 26 more patients had died from the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours, bringing the toll to 2,018.

Two deaths were in Erbil, six in Sulaimani, one in Garmian, five in Raparin, 11 in Duhok and one more in Halabja, the ministry of health stated.

The ministry of health further said it had recorded 720 new COVID-19 cases in the previous 24 hours, raising the total number to 56,465.

Up to 291 cases were in Erbil, 142 in Sulaimani, 27 in Garmian, 246 in Duhok and 14 in Halabja, the ministry added.

As many as 396 more patients had recovered from the virus, the Region’s health ministry reported.
