SULAIMANI (ESTA) — France has allocated 15 million euros to the Duhok governorate to support a development project in cooperation with Germany, a French diplomat said on Sunday.

French Consul-General to Erbil Olivier Decottignies met with Duhok governor Ali Tatar on Sunday (October 11) to discuss economy and development in the governorate.

The French Development Agency “finances a project worth 15 million euros in cooperation with Germany in the fields of water and sanitation in the governorate of Duhok,” Decottignies said in a tweet.

In a statement, the Duhok governorate said 500 people and 60,000 students would benefit from the project.

In July, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said during his visit to the Kurdistan Region that France and Germany would implement “an important water and sanitation project” worth 15 million euros in Duhok.
